Thabsile Esther Dlamini, 2019 Adult Winner (Thulwane, Manzini)

  • Dlamini entered the competition under vegetable production and has managed to grow her business, adding more trees to her orchard, and raising chickens. She has also ventured into more high value crops like tomatoes.
  • Winning the truck allowed her to save the money she used to spend on hiring one to purchase a vehicle.
  • Dlamini contributes to employment in her community by hiring more permanent staff and also increasing the number of casual workers.
  • The training she received post-winning has taught her lot more about agriculture and gave her greater recognition as an agripreneur.
  • Dlamini started farming with very little knowledge but the competition opened her eyes. She doesn’t want other women to have to go through the uphill she did as she worked her way through farming. Thus, she has been actively involved in training and mentoring more women agripreneurs, including the Woman Farmer of the Year 2021 and 2022 winners.
  • She is thankful to the foundation as she believes it took women farmers, people who did not have much recognition in society, and made something of them.
